It Should Have Been Me
A meek and humble man
was one day brought before a king
and silently endured disgrace and shame
Not for wrongs that he had done
Jesus was his name
The king then said
In him I can find no blame
But the jeering crowds
cried crucify him anyway
We'll not have this man
To be our king
So they beat him
And then nailed him
To a wooden cross of shame
This story's true
And Jesus was his name
It should have been me
Nailed up on that tree
The innocent died
And the guilty went free
It pleased God to bruise him
To give his life for me
How can I refuse him
When it should have
Been me
